Float That Basket!

moses

You know,

there comes a point in every writer’s life when it’s time to float that basket. What I mean is, if you’ve written your story, edited it, tweaked it, listened to your critique buddies’ advice, edited again, prayed, battled depression that it might never sell, battled insomnia because you know it’s time to send it out…if you’ve finished the thing, it’s time for that baby to go!

Are you with me?  Then read more here:

Hi Everybody,
Well, we’re in the wrap-up stage. Thomas has taken us through the very technical world of setting up a simple website so we can have a great “web presence.”

Now we’re down to the last couple of questions: How long it should take for someone to build your site, and where to find great examples.

Enjoy!

People of Color and the Publishing Industry

Hi Everybody,
As you probably know, there has been much debate in recent months about diversity and multicultural representation in the publishing industry. The book cover for Liar, by Justine Larbalestier, was the focus of that debate not so long ago.

As you also probably know, the MC (main character) in Liar is a dark-skinned female with nappy hair worn close to her head, and with features that make her look rather boyish. However, Bloomsbury’s first choice for a cover model to portray the MC was a white girl.

Writers – Know Your Vocabulary!

Hello Everyone,

Just thought I would drop a line and explain some of the publishing terms and abbreviations you may see when you are conversing with writers, editors or publishers.

dictionary

This is by no means an exhaustive list, however, it is important that you’re familiar with these words. I’ll add to it whenever the occasion arises.

Here goes (By the way, you’ll find out soon enough that this is in no particular order…so spare me a little folly):

Hi Everybody,
If you remember, last time we talked about how to decide on a color scheme for your website. This time, we’ll tackle finding a good “do-it-yourself” web design program.

Editors Have A Secret Language. Have You Learned it Yet?

Hi Everybody,
I just had to share this wonderful post with you. Did you know that editors have their own secret language? They do, and if you don’t know it, the things you say when you’re trying to get published may make you sound like a stark-raving lunatic!

Hi Everybody!

Last time, we talked about “web presence,” choosing a domain name, and the basic functions of a website. Today we’ll discuss what Thomas thinks about blogging as opposed to just setting up a website.
